About RHE

One of my favorite books from childhood is I Can Read With My Eyes Shut by Dr. Seuss.  The Cat is explaining to his younger counterpart about his incredible ability to read with his eyes shut, though it’s hard on him.  I love the picture of him where it says “But it’s bad for my hat and makes my eyebrows get red hot.  SO…reading with my eyes shut I don’t do an awful lot.”

Is the book a metaphor about the dangers of ignorance or intolerance?  If it is, I don’t really care.  I just like it the idea of his eyebrows heating up from the effort of reading with his eyes shut.

The whole book praises the joys of reading.  My favorite page spread says “The more that you read, the more things you will know.  The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”  Join us as we write about and expound on our love of books.  And “keep your eyes wide.  Keep them wide open…at least on one side.”
