Book #9: The Snow Child

Before last week, if someone had told me what I needed in my life was another fairy tale retelling novel, I would have laughed at them and rolled my eyes.  I mean, we’re over it, am I right?  You, me, my kids, all the people.  No more fairy tales, unless they’re really awesome.  Oh wait, I guess I would if they’re really awesome. Enter The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey. Yes, this novel is

Book #8: Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend

I was positive I’d reviewed this book.  I scoured the blog for the post I was sure I had written, but came up empty.  Then I checked Goodreads and found I’d read it in 2012, but in November, after the great drought had begun on the blog.  If only I could have kept it together for a few more months so I could have written my first impressions!  Reading it a second time was definitely worth

Book #6 Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass

Have you ever met someone that you instantly clicked with?  You don’t have to be exactly the same, but you seem to just ride the same wavelength?  I love that feeling and I hang on to those people.  I love authors like that too, and it is even easier to hang on to them because I can buy their books and read them over and over and feel that connection.  Whether the connection is to the charac

Book #5: Number the Stars

I try to take on WWII books at a slow pace so I don’t overwhelm myself.  A few years ago I read The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom and All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr and then I needed a break.  But my thirteen-year-old is studying WWII (more books on that topic to come while we work our way through them) and recommended Number the Stars by Lois Lowry for me to read.  I read it

Book #4: The City of Ember

Er, I know I’ve already read this book and even reviewed the entire series here, but since this counts toward my 100 book tally, I’m totally going to do a post about it. This time around, I read The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau to my ten-year-old daughter and eight-year-old son. They knew nothing about the story, having missed the last round when my older kids read it.  It was so delight

Book #2: The 21 Day Sugar Detox

I just went through a mental argument, telling myself that a cookbook shouldn’t count toward my 100 book goal, but then reminding myself that I read cookbooks cover to cover, so therefore it counts.  Then I told myself that it’s lame to blog about it, but I told that Negative Nellie voice to get over myself and just write something down, you stinker.  I’m very nice to my inner critic, as y

Book #1: Teaching from Rest

I admit, I’m going for the easy win on the first book of my 100 book challenge.  This book is less than 100 pages long and started out as an e-book that eventually had enough demand to print.  Baby steps, right? I’m a homeschooling mom, so it’s no surprise that you’ll see some of the books I read show up in that category, but I did find lots of parallels to motherhood and life in gene
